In this article on the basis of methods and instruments of humanistic ethnology the culture of empathy of Ossetians is studied in the context of dynamics of ethnic consciousness — the dominant resources of the very ethnicity. The traditions of empathy are the significant part of the Ossetians spiritual heritage, the most important consolidating component of the static part of their ethnic consciousness. Humanism and empathic behavior determine in many respects modern ethnic image of this nation.

The article describes the vicissitudes of fate and creative heritage of educator B. Gatiev. His contribution to the development of church-historical literature and ethnographic Ossetian studies is shown.

The ethnographic article «Superstitions and Prejudices of Ossetians» by B. Gatiev casts light on the many issues of social and family life of Ossetians: mythological ideas, religious cults and family household ritual. The author often used folklore as sources. Gatiev introduced into scientific sphere a lot of new ethnographic and folklore Ossetian materials, which have a great scientific value. A weak side of Gatiev’s ethnographic article, like the overwhelming mass of the pre-revolutionary publications on the Caucasian ethnography, is its descriptive character.

This article discusses the transformation of the system and the structure of public administration in Terek area in 1883-1905th. In accordance with it the value of the center of Terek area, Vladikavkaz, is undeniable. Its development as a regional city coincided with the period of active implementing reforms in the North Caucasus. Created infrastructure met the opportunities and the needs of urban society and its activity willy-nilly based on the common interests of different nationalities and ethnic groups. The atmosphere that prevailed in the city, largely shaped the unity of views of people from different social environment in fact, mutually enriching their experience of peaceful co-produced by stereotypes of informal communication, teaches tolerance and law-abiding.

Confessional aspects of the Russian policy in the North Caucasus in the second half of the 19th — early 20th centuries are analyzed in the article with attracting the facts not introduced into scientific sphere before. Author considers religion as one of the factors of integration. In this context the role of not only Orthodoxy but also Islam is marked out.

The article is devoted to reveal of expressive resources of polypredicative compound sentences and their functional and stylistic peculiarities in the idiostyle of the classic author of the Ossetian literature Nafi Dzhusoity (on the basis of the writer’s greatest novel «The Tears of Syrdon»). The types of representative for syntax of this novel polypredicative sentences are marked out as well as their significance for creating of specific epic narrative style are analyzed.

K. Khetagurov for the first time comprehended and generalized the esthetic aspects of development of the world by Ossetian people. In his work he created the general principles of esthetic development of the world in every sphere of human activity: in art, in life, in real activity. In journalism he allocated the different spheres of the esthetics: life esthetics, esthetics of appearance of the person, esthetics of ecological culture, etc.

In art creativity (in painting, poetry, prose, dramatic art) Kosta reflected national representations of sublime and low, fine and ugly, tragic and comic as the most important categories of the esthetics in their deep correlation to national ideals of good and justice, i.e. expressing national view of the world and a place of the person in it.

The features of transfer of the rhythmic organization of the text when translating by S. Mamitov «The Song of the Falcon» of M. Gorky into the Ossetian language are traced in the article. On the basis of the comparative analysis of the original text with the translation one the author brings out the ways of achievement by the translator the equivalence of the initial language units. A special attention is paid to the rendering of imagery of original language.

In the article a composition of deputy corps of legislative assemblies of the republics of North Caucasus Federal District is analyzed, the social bases and tendencies of change of social characteristics of modern political elite of the republics of the North Caucasus which have the expressed institutional and functional originality are studied.

The article deals with the problem of the legal equality of men and women in the social life of modern North Ossetia, which traditionally interpreted in social sciences as «women problem». On the base of analysis of the statistic data the conclusion about women’s unequal condition in Ossetia, registered practically in all spheres of the Republic social life since 80‑ies years of the 20th century is done.

The article is about remarkable Russian scientist, great orientalist, traveler, thinker Yu.N. Roerich. The author points to diversity of his scientific interests and focuses on the major direction of his activities, characterizing his achievements in each of them. One of the Roerich’s works was the article “Alan squads in the Mongol epoch”, published in the French magazine “Ossetia” in 1933. In this work Roerich praised the military skills of Alans in the Mongol conquest period.

The author analyses one of the most informative source on Ossetian common law – the baron Uslar’s list of the adats of western Ossetians. The author considers this source as an important document for reconstruction of the feudal landowning and land-using in Digoria before endorsement of Russian state order.

The document presents the traditional juridical norms of Digors written by P. Uslar during the campaign for collection and systematization of the Caucasian mountaineers’ common law in 1840s. This document is extracted from the Georgian state archive and is supplied with detailed publisher’s commentaries.

In this literary essay the review on the book of T. Zvyagintseva’s poems is done. The critic offers her own sensing of young author’s poetry, transpierced by lyricism, and not conceals her sympathy for the author.

In the article the brief biography essay and scientific activities of widely known Ossetian linguist, historian and theoretic of the Ossetian linguistics T. Guriev is presented. The author points to the main spheres of the scientist’s interests in which he concentrated his researches: linguistics, Ossetian grammar, etymology, lexicography, onomastics, etc. In every sphere the scientist obtained the significant scientific results.

There is a survey of the scientific actions of the Institute in winter 2014 in this part. The main events were connected with the Days of Russian academic science having been oriented to popularization of the results of scientific researches among youth and schoolchildren of Ossetia.
