The article is devoted to Kazi Atazhukin, the bright representative of the second generation of Adygeyan educational movement. The publication by him of series of articles: «Attempts to introduce the Kabardian written language», «Reply to T. Makarov» and many others became generalization of his teaching experience gained while working on educational courses for rural teachers. This article discusses his dispute with T. Makarov on the introduction a national written language based on the Russian alphabet. T. Makarov advocated the Arabic script.

This article is about the original topical tradition of the Russian literature of the 19th century – the Caucasian motives in the works of writers, who were the participants of the military actions in the Caucasus. Within this literature trend a place of Caucasus in the Russian state was comprehended by the Russian public conscience as well as ethnic traditions and mental image of mountain peoples, ethic choice between military duty and sympathy to Caucasus’ dwellers were discussed.

The processes of post-reform modernization of the second half of 19th – the beginning of 20th centuries attached a new impulse to the problem of improvement of nationwide identity in Russia, in a certain degree facilitating to identification of local traditional cultures with nationwide culture. The unified cultural standard broadcasting over the whole territory of country led to forming of new cultural traditions and promoted solving of the strategic tasks, the most important of which was enlightenment. In the article on the North Caucasian example one of valuable mechanisms for enlightenment of people – popular readings which became bright social-cultural phenomenon in daily life of the Russian’s citizens in the period under review.

The article characterizes the types and forms of cooperation in the Tersky Area in 19th – early 20th centuries: the credit (loan-savings and credit partnerships, country banks), consumer’s (consumer’s societies), and manufacturing (partnerships and artels) ones. Cooperation was an effective way to mobilization of internal abilities of regional society for mobilization of economic, stimulation of people initiative as a base of civil society.

Oral history currently is one of the priority trends of historical science. Comprehension of events of the Great Patriotic war on the basis of memories of the war-time children from Ossetia make it possible to detail the doings in the region, at the same time enlarging a global picture of the war. The article attempts to study the inner world of little man through the children’s memories, providing information, which is often inaccessible with traditional methods for study of history of the war.

The article is devoted to one of the main characters of the Ossetian Narta epic – to Soslan. There are two versions of the name of this hero in the Narta epic of Ossetians: Soslan and Sozyryko. The frequency of references of both versions of the name in the texts of stories that are included into the seven-volume edition of the Ossetian Narta epic is done. The various archetypical mythologems, which are enclosed in the image of Soslan, are discussed. The different versions of etymologization of the name of hero are analyzed. The comparative analysis of the North Caucasian variations of the name of Soslan / Sozyryko is given. The relation of the mythonim of Soslan with the archetype of the Sun is revealed.

The article considers a little-studied character of Ossetian mythology named Sameli. The author concludes that the image of Sameli is the result of contamination of the Ossetian bound personage of the Promethean type and the main representer of Judaic demonology named Samael. A specific attention is given to the motive of zoomorphic transformation, contained in the myth.
